چکیده

This paper studies one-loop effective potential and spontaneous-symmetrybreaking pattern for SU(5) gauge theory in De Sitter space-time. Curvature effects modify the flat-space effective potential by means of a very complicated special function previously derived in the literature. An algebraic technique already developed by the first author to study spontaneous symmetry breaking of SU(n) for renormalizable polynomial potentials is here generalized, for SU(5), to the much harder case of a De Sitter background. A detailed algebraic and numerical analysis provides a better derivation of the stability of the extrema in the maximal subgroups SU(4)×U(1), SU(3)×SU(2)×U(1), SU(3)×U(1)×U(1)×R311, SU(2)× SU(2)× U(1)× U(1) × R2211, where R311 and R2211 discrete symmetries select

Symmetry restoration in gauge boson wave packet collisions in Yang-Mills-Higgs theory.

The idea of the restoration of spontaneously broken gauge symmetries under extreme conditions (high temperature, high fermion densities, strong external gauge elds) was intensely studied in the 1970's and is well known [1,2] (for review see [3,4]). Under these conditions spontaneously broken gauge theories undergo various phase transitions resulting, in most cases, in the restoration of the ori...

General effective actions.

We investigate the structure of the most general actions with symmetry group G, spontaneously broken down to a subgroup H . We show that the only possible terms in the Lagrangian density that, although not G-invariant, yield G-invariant terms in the action, are in one to one correspondence with the generators of the fifth cohomology classes. For the special case of G = SU(N)L × SU(N)R broken do...

Probing Gauge String Formation in a Superconducting Phase Transition

Superconductors are the only experimentally accessible systems with spontaneously broken gauge symmetries which support topologically nontrivial defects, namely string defects. We propose two experiments whose aim is the observation of the dense network of these strings thought to arise, via the Kibble mechanism, in the course of a spontaneous symmetry breaking phase transition. We suggest ways...

The fading of symmetry non-restoration at finite temperature

The fate of symmetries at high temperature determines the dynamics of the very early universe. It is conceivable that temperature effects favor symmetry breaking instead of restoration. Concerning global symmetries, the non-linear sigma model is analyzed in detail. For spontaneously broken gauge symmetries, we propose the gauge boson magnetic mass as a “flag” for symmetry (non)-restoration. We ...

spontaneously-broken chiral symmetry

We present and discuss the properties and the main results of a cosmological model with a spontaneously-broken chiral symmetry. The model contains and relates dynamically, two spin-zero fields. The scalar field can provide the dynamical basis for inflation in the early universe. The pseudoscalar, Goldstone field can provide an early, small residual vacuum energy density, the absolute value of w...
